During Lent we are trying to focus on the desert moments in Jesus' life and will be joining together to rest and listen.
Our Lent Prayer
Mondays 7.00-7.45pm Desert Prayer OLOL
Wednesdays & Fridays Stations of the Cross after morning Mass SH
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and, rather than focusing on negatives, trying to give stuff up, we might perhaps focus on what is positive in our lives and try to make that grow. What is positive is our appreciation of the overwhelming and unconditional love of God and that was Jesus’ search in the desert. He needed to appreciate how close God was to him so that his journey from Gethsemane to Golgotha was to become a reality. We can make that same journey with Jesus over these next few weeks.
So, first, we have to find time and space. Time to let go of the constant battles that go on in our lives demanding our presence, and space to clear away the clutter. It is that desert experience that Jesus shares with us over these next weeks. It is a time of peace and calm that we need to create for ourselves so that we can see a bit more clearly how much we are loved.
We can create that space personally, in our own homes. We can make that space available liturgically and we can find time for God by making space in the things that occupy us morning to night every day.
Lent isn’t about giving up sweets, it is about finding God!
So, how can we do that in SH & OLOL:
Stations of the Cross ..... will be prayed after the morning mass in SH [not if there is a funeral] on the Mondays and Fridays of Lent.
Desert Prayer.... a time for meditation on the scriptures, peace and quiet with the Lord.. 7.00 - 7.45pm OLOL Tuesday evenings.
The rosary will continue to be prayed after the Service of Word and Communion on a Thursday.
Busy times......plenty of opportunity. Don’t give things up, take stuff on!
